The club’s been used on a few occasions as a set. Likely the first time was when an actual cricket match was televised at Shawholm – the first ever televised league cricket match in Scotland – in 1955. But since then the inside of the clubhouse has featured as a Western Isles café, and then in November 2011 the ground was used to film scenes from a teen comedy horror “Love Bite“. Starring Ed Speleers, Jessica Szohr and Luke Pasqualino, the film – financed by WestEnd Films – saw Robert Bernstein and Douglas Rae of Ecosse Films (The Water Horse, Becoming Jane, Wuthering Heights) and Paul Ritchie (co-producer, Slumdog Millionaire) producing, in association with Notting Hill Films, a small pavilion being constructed and Shawholm becoming Rainmouth Cricket Club’s ground for a weekend!
