Club honours

The club has enjoyed playing success over the years, winning local and national leagues, and cup competitions – the turn of the Century seeing a resurgence in fortunes with the SNCL First Division being won in 2004 – a year the Rowan Cup was also won – the Scottish Plate being won in 2005, a runners-up place being achieved in the 2006 West League Cup, and 2007 seeing the club win the Rowan Cup again and the Scottish Region of the ECB Cockspur Cup.

The progression at all levels over this decade is also reflected by the club’s Under 12s winning the WDJCU league in 2005, and no fewer than four junior age group teams winning their leagues in 2007 (Under 11s, 13s, 15Bs and 15s).  2008 saw further success at junior age group level with the Under 18s and Under 15Bs winning their league titles, and the Poloc Academy securing the Strathclyde League Division 2 title in their inaugural season.  2009’s major success was the Under 15s winning the Scottish Cup, with the Poloc Academy winning Strathclyde League title for a successive year being another fine achievement.  2010 saw the Under 18s secure a league title, whilst both 2012 and 2014 saw the Frank Smith Trophy won.

Success at senior level has followed the progression of the club’s juniors and its investment in junior development, with the Shawholm XI winning the CSL Reserve League in 2012, a feat repeated in 2013 and 2014. And this success has continued, with, in 2015 and for the first time its history, the club’s 1st XI won both the West League Cup and Rowan Cup, the former for the first time ever, and reached the Scottish Cup semi-final.

But, all of the above said, arguably, the club’s greatest day was the 1984 Scottish Cup victory.

The club also has a proud tradition of developing players, both juniors and seniors.  Listed below – along with team honours – are the names of those players who’ve enjoyed individual recognition at junior and senior international level whilst playing at Shawholm.

The ground, too, has seen a number of famous days: the first ever televised cricket match in Scotland, international matches and, in 2006, three matches in the ECC European Championships.

1st XI Captains

The club’s fortunate to have had the services of some great captains over its history – and maybe some who were not so smart!  Here’s the roll of honour of 1st XI Captains stretching back in time from the present day.

SNCL and CSL, and Scottish Cup, centuries and five-wicket hauls

Since the introduction of the national leagues in the late 1990s, watchers of the ‘Loc have witnessed a number of great innings by the club’s batters – undernoted’s a list of ‘Loc league centuries.  Also below is a list of Scottish Cup centurions since season 2002.  And the Loc’s players don’t just beat teams by racking up huge totals – the bowlers have had more than their fair share of “days in the sun” too.  Undernoted’s also a list of ‘Loc bowlers who’ve taken five or more wickets in SNCL or CSL matches, and in Scottish Cup matches (again since 2002).

WDCU centuries and five-wicket hauls

Here are partial – but growing – lists of century makers for the Shawholm XI in the Western Union and Poloc XIs in the WDCU Sunday and Evening Leagues, and those who’ve grabbed five or more wickets in a match.
