Poloc women pipped down at Ayr [posted 11/09/16]

Nicole Hanlon reports on yesterday's T20 semi-final against George Watson's at New Cambusdoon.  Nicole writes, "Our skipper won the toss and elected to bat first, sending Ellen Watson and Abtaha Maqsood in to open the batting.  Both got off to a good start, putting on 28 runs in five overs, before Abtaha was caught at point for 20.  Despite Abtaha's dismissal, the side continued to bat well, with Ellen being the pick, scoring 30.  In our allotted overs a total of 71 for 4 was posted.  The second innings saw the side put in a big effort in the field, featuring some very good bowling [Ed: despite strong winds!]  However two George Watson's openers - Bryce (31*) and Henderson (24*) - would see off the bowling attack and reached their target of 72, in just 9 overs.  There were, however, some impressive bowling figures from Sam Bachari (2-0-5-0) and Abtaha (2-0-7-0), and the fielding, overall, was really good."

Washout [posted 26/06/16]

Nicole Hanlon reports on today's Poloc Women's National League match at Ayr.  She writes, "Today's game against Galloway, at Ayr, was a great day for the AyrLoc ladies.  Despite eventually being a wash-out, and ultimately needing to be abandoned due to rain, the ladies played a strong game.  Fielding first the AyrLoc ladies took four Galloway wickets, Gill taking the first in the second over.  A second followed sharp fielding that allowed Nicole to run out a Galloway batter.  Continuing to make in-roads, Karolina took the third wicket in the sixth over, over thirteen then seeing Hazel getting in the wickets, deceiving the batter with her spin.

"Ayrloc felt this was the best they have fielded all season, and saw them restrict Galloway to just 66 in sixteen overs.  In reply there was a bit of a slow start to the run-chase, due to good bowling and great fielding on Galloway's part.  However just as momentum was building  - last over before the rain saw 7 runs scored - and AyrLoc had moved on to 29 in just under eight overs, the decision to abandon the match was taken with the rain showing no sign of letting off.  Hopefully we will manage to replay the game later in the season."

Abtaha in Scotland action [posted 10/04/16]

The first real action of a new season was played today, with Scotland Women Under 17 taking on a Scottish Students women's side at Peffermill in Edinburgh today.  In action for the Wildcats Under 17s was Abtaha Maqsood.  Batting first, the students posted 131 in what was a scheduled 35-overs-a-side match, Abataha taking the first two opposition wickets to fall.  Then, in the run-chase, Abtaha opened the batting for the Wildcats, putting on 25 for the first wicket with Prestwick CC's 'keeper|batter Ellen Watson, before holing out at mid-wicket.  As wickets continued to fall at regular intervals thereafter, it was the student side who ran out eventual winners.  Well done to Abtaha on another appearance for the national Under 17 side, and good to get a game and a new season started.

Poloc women, 2016 [posted 01/04/16]

Nicole Hanlon writes, "The Poloc and Ayr ladies teams would like to share the exciting news that for the 2016 season the two teams will be coming together to play as one.  This will support both clubs to field a full team and have a great summer of cricket, while supporting each other in the development of their respective teams."
