Poloc's juniors

Poloc runs junior cricket teams at seven available age-group levels: Under 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 18 and compete in West District Junior Cricket Union - as well as ECB and Cricket Scotland - competitions.  Under 10 players compete in "Kwik Cricket" competitions, the others hard-ball.  But competitive play is only one, small, aspect of Poloc's junior work and this page will tell you more about what's going on at the club for the 50 or so youngsters registered with it.

The club's coaching staff are all qualified and appropriately CRBS, Disclosure Scotland, PVG and/or Police checked, and the club is an enrolled body under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme.  Poloc's Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection Policy can be viewed online and is also available from our Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection Officer, Keith Young, whose contact details can be found below and on the Contact us page of the website.

Indoor Super 8s, Under 19s Finals Day [posted 30/12/18]

Indoor_Super_8s_2018_1

The Under 19s were in Indoor Super 8s Finals Day action today, finishing runners-up to Clydesdale who beat them by 17 runs in a high-scoring first match.  153 for 4 proved too many for the 'Loc, the side finishing 136 for 5 in their ten-over reply.  CJ top-scored with 38 not out, and was given able support by Amaan Ali who made an unbeated 26.  The side were ahead of their opponents rights up until the start of the ninth over in their run-chase: their score with two overs to go of 115 for 5 being 12 runs ahead of where their opponents had been at the same stage in their innings.  However the heavy scoring of the end of the first innings wasn't repeated and the 17-run loss resulted.

In game two the 'Loc took on a Clydesdale II side.  Batting first they scored freely, reaching 72 for 2 at the halfway point in the innings, Rambo (pictured left, batting with CJ) retiring.  Amaan Ali would also continue his good form with the bat, retiring for a second consecutive match, and helping the side post 152 for 4.

In reply, the Clydesdale II side got off to a slow start - 16 for 2 after three overs - and lost early wickets in to the bargain, Froggy bagging a brace in the third over.  Clydesdale II continued to find it hard going and had reached just 38 for 4 at the midpoint of their reply, Froggy taking a third wicket.  CJ was also in the wickets, taking a smart caught and bowled in the sixth over to keep the screw tightened. Wickets continued to fall as the second innings progressed, the 'Loc's opponents being seven down going in to the ninth over.  A decent final over from the 'Loc then secured what was a big win, the side winning by 84 runs.

Under 15s miss out on Finals Day [posted 28/12/18]

The Under 15s (pictured left) couldn't match their elder brethern in today's Under 15 Indoor Super 8s group stages, going down to three defeats - against Ferguslie CC, Uddingston CC and Glasgow Accies CC - respectively in their Group A matches.  There were highlights however, all with the bat, as Moiz (27*), Hassaan (25*), Elliot (26*) and Hasan (28*) all made retiral-inducing scores.  However the side's indiscipline with the ball cost them dear, an avalanches of no balls and wides being seemingly unstoppable over the day.

Under 19s come through the group stages [posted 27/12/18]

The Under 19s (pictured below, with Team Manager Josh Sajjad) came through their group stage matches today to qualify for Sunday's Finals Day.  Despite losing to Clydesdale in their first round-robin match, a big win against the Ferguslie|Kelburne combined side saw them secure top spot in Group A, on NRR.  Game two saw them chasing 110 to beat the Dark Side, however they'd finish 14 runs short and go down to defeat.  However with the Ferguslie|Kelburne combined team having beaten Clydesdale in game one, a big enough win over the Paisley combo would still be enough to see the Under 19s finish top of the group.  And it's probably safe to say that after being set 125 for victory, the odds were in favour of back-to-back losses.  But the side had other ideas, and a blistering attack on the Ferguslie|Kelburne bowling attack saw the side romp home in just 8.1 overs to see them record the best NRR of the three sides in the group.

Outdoor junior coaching

Under the umbrella of the "Community Coaching Initiative", this takes place on Thursday evenings at the club between late April and early September.  Under 12s (as at 1 September in the previous year) between 6.30pm and 7.30pm, with Under 14s and Under 16s between 6.30pm and 8pm.  Older players practice along with seniors.

The club's registered juniors number around 50 and are regularly updated as to what's going on for them at the club and encouraging them to get along to these outdoor practices.

As with senior practice, sessions, whenever practical, involve "nets" although teaching of the basics of the game is given a high priority. as such, genuine "beginners" are welcome along on any of the juniors evenings with children of both sexes, and as young as seven years old, taking part.  The use of "Kwik Cricket" facilitates safe play for even the youngest children.
